Item#Funk
Item#Funk (pronounced Item Number Funk) is a Houston-based freestyle popping crew founded in 2013. Composed
of 8 members of varying backgrounds and ethnicities, the crew seeks to represent the rich diversity of the
street dance community.
Each member specializes in different aspects of the street art form known as ‘Popping.’ Popping is a
funk-based dance created in the 1970s. Item#Funk seeks to show the evolution of the styles of hitting,
waving, tutting, gliding and more by mixing the innovation of the Houston and various street cultures to add
a distinct original flavor to the style.
Item#Funk has maintained success battling and sharing Houston culture worldwide. Members have won battle and
showcase events both domestically and abroad while also teaching and spreading dance knowledge. The crew
hosts a premier street dance battle event “Who’s Fakin’ Da Funk” to showcase with competitors and judges
traveling from all parts of the world to participate.
