Rea Sampilo

Rea Christina Sampilo (she/her/hers) is a Filipina-American, emerging interdisciplinary artist, and community organizer residing in Houston, Texas. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey and moved to Houston at the age of 17. She holds a B.S. in Sociology and M.A. in Performance Studies with a focus on dance studies, Filipino-American culture, and diasporic performances from Texas A&M University, College Station. Her mixed-media interactive pieces question and explore the concept of play, movement, embodied behavior, and the Filipinx body. Her work was shown at the Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia for the exhibit Hurry Up and Wait curated by Adriel Luis. Rea is currently the Co-President of Pilipino American Unity for Progress, Texas Chapter (UniPro TX), and the Director of Lumikhâ 2020 Art Showcase: We Have Begun. As an active member of both organizations, she works in close collaboration with Filipinx Artists of Houston (FxAH) and Filipino American National Historical Society (FAHNS) to program events for the Filipinx-American community in Houston.
