Tiffany Sloan is a current sophomore at Rice University majoring in political science and Asian studies. She
uses these two disciplines to further educate herself on the history of our Philippine past in an attempt to
construct a more visible and vocal Philippine and Philippine/American future. In her free time, she competes
with her university’s speech and debate team, composing performative literary programs which present
multifaceted perspectives on Filipinx identities, diaspora, and subalternity.
As a biracial Filipina, Tiffany has developed her advocacy and performance around reclaiming her Philippine
roots and exploring what it is to exist in a diaspora with a multiracial background. This desire to preserve
and document these experiences extends to her work with the Houston Asian American Archive, as Tiffany
dedicates herself to engaging the Filipinx community alongside the broader Asian/American communities of
Houston. In the future, Tiffany hopes to continue inspiring discourse which challenges simplistic depictions
of Philippine struggles and ultimately champion a more complex and empowered representation of our people.
